5 Things To Do in San Diego

You might say that San Diego is one of my favourite cities to travel to, in fact anywhere in California really and I’m a happy gal. I first visited the Golden state back in 2009 when I moved over on a Student J1 visa. I’ve been in love with California ever since. I’m lucky enough now that I get to travel there almost every month, sometimes every second month depending on my schedule.

Here’s a list of 5 of my favourite things to do when I touch down in the great big “Whales Vagina” (anchorman) that is San Diego.

Visit Old Town;

Old town is so pretty in the sun and if you’re a fan of Mexican food especially, you will love Old Town. I love eating outside in the sunshine whenever I can and theres some great places here that allow you to do that. They even have some music playing outside if you’re there at the right time. Old town is also home to one of the most Haunted houses in America, The Whaley house, which offers ghost tours daily, obviously if you’re brave enough.

Bike ride around Coronado Island;

If you like white sandy beaches you’ll love Coronado Island. It sits beautifully across the bay from San Diego and has some great photo opportunities of Downtown from across the water. It is also home to the world famous Hotel del. I’ve done the Island a few different ways. I’ve gone by uber across the bay and rented a bike to cycle around the Island.  I’ve also done the San Diego Trolley tour which was a great way to get as much in as possible. The trolley tour also stops at Old town and gives you the history of everywhere it takes you. Personally I found this really interesting and it’s a fun chilled day out.

Pacific Beach and Mission bay;

PB is another of my San Diego favourites, it has a beautiful beach and a promenade full of restaurants and bars. Different vibe than Coronado so depends what you’re looking for but it’s a great place for a night out too especially on weekends. Mission bay is right beside it and has its very own fairground with a ferris wheel that is situated right on the beach.

An evening on the Gaslamp District;

If you’re heading for an evening downtown the Gaslamp district is where you’ll need to be. The streets are lined with restaurants and bars to suit anyone. 3 of my favourite places on Gaslamp would be Barleymash for a few drinks, Rustic Root  for the ultimate rooftop experience and The Shout House Piano bar for loads of laughs.

Stroll around the Harbour;

There’s loads to do and see down by the harbour, whether you want to go on a Whale watching boat tour or board the Aircraft carrier The USS Midway. It’s all right beside each other. Along with some great photo opportunities on the harbour also. A popular tourist spot to take a picture is with the Unconditional Surrender statue which is situated right next to the USS midway. If you fancy a bite to eat there are some great fish restaurants in Seaport Village which is also on the harbour. The famous Cheesecake Factory is close by and if you’re a Top Gun fan you might want to get a photo inside the famous bar that was featured in the film. The convention centre where Comicon is held every year is also nearby which is right next to baseball stadium, Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres. There is loads to do and see on a stroll around the harbour.
